Statutory Basis: Section 10(2)(c)

Under Section 10 of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023, the Central Government designates organizations as Significant Data Fiduciaries (SDFs) based on assessment of factors such as the volume and sensitivity of personal data processed, risk of harm to Data Principals, potential impact on national security, public order, and electoral democracy.

Section 10(2)(c) explicitly mandates that an SDF must undertake periodic Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA). A DPIA is a formal process identifying the purpose of processing, assessing potential harms to Data Principals, evaluating measures for managing risk, and documenting technical safeguards.
